Wometco home theatre

What the hell is that you say? A really old cable tv station or cable box called WHT, It was actually a rival to HBO in the late 70's early 80's. I happened to snag one when i was about 11 by a neighbour who was leaving the country, I couldn't fathom the possibility of whole movies being played on your tv without commercials, It was a dream come true. Aside from the usual fare of 70's/80's flicks being on constant rotation, There was a series called Nightcap, It showed hairy bush, no genital or penetration porn, Always after 11 p.m, far late for the kiddies to watch, (don't ask how i know this). It also showed obscure movies during the day that were very strange, I could never shake off the weird ones i've seen growing up, the cable station was eventually cancelled in 1988, I always wondered what would be the possibilities of seeing any of these shows again, After digging around i've found a few movies i still remember. My viewing experience could be summed up to a really early version of MTV's Liquid Television, Which i became an instant fan of when it aired in the 90's.

1. Sally cruikshank's Quasi at the quackadero

Hard to explain this one, it's a cartoon that i never forgot about, I actually managed to get a dvd copy of her work thru her website, If you've seen any of her cartoon shorts you'd know that it's trippy. I knew that i'd find it someday. Thank you internet

2.Forbidden zone
.It had that guy from fantasy island running around dry humping women, So strange..

3. A boy and his dog
Don johnson walking around in some post apocalyptic world talking to his psychic dog. Way before he got famous.

4. My science project
A teenager discovers a machine that creates time warps. oh yeah, Dennis hopper is in this as a stoner teacher. Awesome.

It's been swell man, I sure miss my WHT...

My viewing experience I will never forget WHT !!. I was a poor boy in the Bronx watching these programs scrambled. I will always love the great WHT!!! - Joe from Orlando, Florida

I don't know if you're still monitoring this blog, but wanted to say how much I enjoyed this post. My family had WHT in the late 70s/early 80s and I remember Quasi at the Quackadero too. There was another cartoon I remember seeing, though I recall very little about it now except that there was a talking genius dog, owned by a guy who I think was called Mac. I'm also pretty sure it was originally made in French and the English voices were dubbed in, which made the dialogue sound stilted and weird. Also remember when Star Wars premiered on WHT. I watched it every time it was on - we hadn't gotten a VCR yet! Thanks for a cool blast from the past.

Pleased to find this blog, good old days, AdlerGraphics was the program layout artist and printer of the program guide back in those days. Met with Linda W. and Barry when they chose what to play. Great memories. Was proud to be part of the team.

Oh man, for years I've been trying to find the short story/short movies they would show on WHT! Kind of like The Twilight Zone, but for kids? One episode was about a boy who disliked chores and homework, he complained and wished he was older. Next scene he's an old man, calling out for his mom, at the table. Another episode about 2 guys kidnapping a kid for money, turns out he was a blue werewolf and scarfed them. Does anyone remember this show? There were other episodes. What was the show called? Someone please help, I will give you a dollar. Haha.

Wow, I lived in NY and remember when WHT came about. I'm sure glad I'm not the only one. It's been so long...it's like it never existed!!!

There was a movie I used to watch as kid on WHT that I've been trying to remember the name of for over 30 years.

I only remember the finale. It was a dude who was a one man army defending what I think was his house from the army and I think law enforcement. It wasn't the movie tank or the park is mine.

If that sounds familiar to anyone please give me a reply. I would love to see that movie again.
